After the discovery of a critical issue with EVE Gate last week, we’ve decided to bring forward the retirement of EVE Gate to close a vulnerability, rather than invest further time on fixing the issue that could be better spent working to improve out websites in other areas.
On Wednesday (September 27th), EVE Gate will be retired.
This will of course mean that the web based EVEmail access that EVE Gate provides will also be retired on Wednesday, however we are investigating alternative solutions for providing EVEmail access outside the EVE Online client, as we’re aware of how important this access is to the Community.
As part of the retirement of EVE Gate, significant efforts have been put into ensuring that EVE Portal, the mobile app for EVE Online, will be a reliable alternative for out of game EVEmail access going forward.
We’re aware that some pilots have been experiencing issues using EVE Portal, and we hope that these issues have now been resolved so that character status and EVEmail is accessible on your mobile device.
In addition to this, in the coming months we’ll be speaking with the EVE Community and the Council of Stellar Management to prioritise expansion of EVE Portal into a wider ranging companion app for EVE Online, so stay tuned for further information.
If you'd like to discuss this announcement, please feel free to do so here!
]]>Also, three members from the Project Discovery team exoplanets will be hosting an AMA (ask me anything) on /r/science tomorrow, Thursday 21st, beginning at 2pm UTC. Wayne Gould (astronomer at the Geneva Observatory), Attila Szantner (founder and CEO of Massively Multiplayer Online Science), and CCP’s Hjalti Leifsson will be on hand for a couple hours to answer questions about the search for exoplanets, the science behind it, integrating citizen science into video games, and the future of crowdsourcing science.
If you are one of the EVE players who have already submitted one of over 38.3 million player classifications of the CoRoT telescope’s light data (peaking at 88,000 per hour!!), you might want to check it out or ask some on-topic questions about Project Discovery-Exoplanets.
A reminder though, that while we're sure you want to know why your favorite ship isn’t getting buffed, EVE game design questions won’t be covered by this particular group.
]]>EVE Vegas is so close that over here in Iceland we can already feel the warm Nevada air and taste the delicious drinks!
At EVE Vegas 2017, we’re looking to involve our players more than ever before. We’ve got some kick ass player presented content lined up for this year, and we’re looking at more and more ways that you guys can show off your allegiances and raise awareness of your identities in game.
As part of this, we’re opening the EVE Vegas Welcome pack this year so that alongside goodies from CCP, Alliances and Corporations can pitch in stickers, posters, merchandise, patches, pins, whatever you guys want (within reason!), to raise awareness of your alliance.
If you’d like to drop items like this into the welcome pack, all you need to do is bring them to Vegas and catch up with our volunteers on site before we prepare the welcome packs.
We’ll be preparing 1200 welcome packs for EVE Vegas this year, so that’s the number to keep in mind, if for instance, you want to put one sticker or one pin in every welcome pack.
To get in touch with our volunteers and organize including your stuff in the welcome pack, you can join the EVE Vegas volunteers discord by clicking this link.
You can contact GreyGal, or any of the other volunteers to work on getting your stuff included in the welcome pack.
Please be aware that CCP reserves the right to decline anything that may be deemed offensive or otherwise inappropriate for inclusion in the welcome pack.

]]>We are delighted to announce that the September 2017 release will be deployed during regular downtime on Tuesday, September 12th, 2017.
Regular daily downtime will begin at 11:00 UTC, and the Tranquility cluster is expected to be back online and accepting connections at 11:15 UTC.
This release brings a host of visual overhauls including improved firing effects and debris texture renovation, as well as testing of new race and bloodline selection in the character creator, which will initially be tested among a selected group of new accounts before being rolled out cluster wide.
The September release sees the release of new skills in preparation for the moon mining changes coming with EVE Online: Lifeblood on October 24th so that pilots can prepare for new moon mining and reactions mechanics. ]]>In the next hour or so, we’ll be making a quick change that will clear the “Run game on DirectX 9” checkbox in your EVE Online Launcher.
The reason for this change is to facilitate the gathering of metrics on DirectX 9 usage, as well as we move towards phasing it out, as announced in this Dev Blog.
Every time you start your EVE Online launcher, it checks your hardware to work out which version of DirectX to use when running the EVE Client. If you’re running an older machine, then fear not, your launcher will detect this, and launch using DirectX 9.
If you have a more recent machine that can run a newer version, the launcher will default to that. The only change that clearing this checkbox causes, is that it stops the launcher from forcing clients to launch in DirectX 9 and allows it to launch the most optimal for your machine.
If you do experience driver crashes after this change and would like to re-enable this checkbox, then feel free to do so. Please also be sure to file a bug report with us if you do encounter issues.
If you’d like to discuss this, you can do so in this thread on the EVE Online forums.

]]>We’re happy to announce that in celebration of Caldari Union Day, a new SKIN is available for one of the most iconic vessels in the State - the Chimera class carrier.
This new SKIN adds unique banners and holograms to the vessel’s hull, as well as a change of lighting colors in honor of the heroic sacrifice made by Admiral Yakiya Tovil-Toba and the crew of the Kairiola, the first Chimera class carrier.
The time limited offer of this SKIN for 1040 PLEX in the New Eden Store ends at downtime on 2017/09/12. Grab it before then!
“State "eba ketsi" banners and a unique honor pattern mark the heroic sacrifice of the Kairiola.
Every Caldari child learns the story of Admiral Yakiya Tovil-Toba and the Kairiola, the fighter carrier he commanded during the First Caldari-Gallente War. Viewed as a war of independence by the Caldari, the war established the Caldari State as a power in its own right but was long, bloody, and noted for many sacrifices and heroic acts by Caldari patriots.
At the climax of the first stage of the war, as the Caldari people attempted to breakout of the siege of Caldari Prime, Admiral Tovil-Toba mounted a campaign of misdirection and distraction with a rag-tag fleet led by the Kairiola. When the heavily damaged carrier was the only remaining ship, Tovil-Toba ordered it into a death dive towards the Gallente home world. This act resulted in massive damage and sowed confusion among Gallente forces allowing millions of Caldari to escape.
To this day, Admiral Yakiya Tovil-Toba is considered the paramount national hero of the Caldari State, and he and the crew of the Kairiola are revered for their sacrifice.
Where the Chimera roams, the Caldari remember.”

]]>As new technologies for resource acquisition emerge in the form of Upwell Refineries, new moon mining capabilities and refined reaction processes, pirate factions have set their sights on taking a slice of the dwindling resources that remain in New Eden.
With more tools for resource gathering at the hands of capsuleers than ever before, the competition for raw materials and supremacy over space is becoming more heated than ever as the cluster is pushed closer toward the brink of all out conflict.
We are proud to announce that the next expansion, EVE Online: Lifeblood, will be deployed on Tuesday October 24th, 2017.
Lifeblood brings a whole host of new features and changes to New Eden, including new Upwell Refineries and new moon mining mechanics, along with a complete shake up of moon mineral distribution.
In addition to this, a complete rework of the reactions system will also be included in this deployment, as well as new Pirate Forward Operating bases, the new Mining Ledger, improvements to the interface for The Agency, and a balance pass that sees a wide range of improvements to many hulls available to Alpha pilots.
Also included in this expansion is a brand new feature for high-security space, Resource Wars, which allows capsuleers to assist their chosen empire with resource gathering in combat or mining roles, as part of new collaborative gameplay content for New Eden.
Check out EVE Updates for more details on what’s coming in EVE Online: Lifeblood.
In the runup to the release of the expansion, we’ll also see a number of changes in the September release, which include improvements to the NPE, a new Market Ticker, improved weapons firing effects, the introduction of new moon mining skills in preparation for the release of Refineries, as well as visual overhauls of debris in game, and a brand new event from The Agency – Warzone Extraction.
