Fury at FWST-8 Rages Over PAPI Keepstars

Further Reporting from the New Eden Correspondents by ISD Deloro

A Foothold in the Fortress - The first fight around a PAPI Keepstar in Delve

Up to 3,800 capsuleers and about 1 trillion ISK in damages; the fight over a Keepstar in FWST-8 on October 5th YC122 was an endurance test for capsuleer and craft and became the current war's record - for the time being.

In the war - dubbed World War Bee II by the capsuleer community - the objective seems to be no other than a full invasion of Imperium territory. System by system, constellation by constellation, forces of Pandemic Associates Please Ignore (PAPI), a coalition kept together solely by a desire to end the Imperium, have wrestled control of the regions of Fountain, Period Basis and Querious from the Imperium. According to the Imperium, the conquered regions are disposable. "Fortress Delve", however, is another matter. A critical point in this conflict is the question of whether PAPI forces can successfully establish a bridgehead in Delve territory or if Imperium forces can manage to repel the attackers long enough to let demoralization, infighting and degradation of material take their toll.

FWST-8 is one of the systems in range of the PAPI Keepstar in 8QT-H4 in Querious and would provide a forward operations base with jump range to a large part of Delve. This is something that both sides knew, and any activity here would be high-stakes play. The PAPI alliance Fraternity (FRT) took the initiative and anchored a Keepstar-class Citadel in the system of FWST-8.

Planning for this operation had started immediately after the successful anchoring of the aforementioned Keepstar in 8QT-H4. But while the plans like location and timing were clear, actually anchoring was another matter. Anchoring a Keepstar within enemy territory, and within range of the enemy's supercarrier wing, is something that draws attention and necessitates the presence of a respectable force. But the more pilots are aware of such an operation, the higher the chance that one of the obligatory spies might catch wind of it. As such, the coalition was largely kept in the dark, but once the Keepstar was anchored, word got out and both sides prepared for the inevitable clash at the precise moment when the Keepstar entered a final vulnerability timer after a 24-hour deployment period.

PAPI was present on grid with a respectable force consisting of several fleets of capitals and sub-capitals, of which Muninn, Eagle and Jackdaw class ships formed the backbone. As the Keepstar became vulnerable Imperium forces, consisting mainly of Muninn, Cerberus, Zealot class vessels and a Baltec battleship fleet - a traditional Imperium fleet doctrine, created during the YC115 Fountain War - as well as a huge number of capitals joined the fight. Both sides also had bomber wings.

In terms of capitals, both sides were asymmetrically set up: PAPI had the advantage of choosing the field and mustered 52 titans, 198 supercarriers, 316 dreadnoughts, 150 carriers and 24 force auxiliaries on field, ready for whatever tactic the Imperium would employ. Flying right into this huge mass of firepower with a full fleet must have seemed futile, and the only real objective was destroying the Keepstar, so the Imperium utilized a tactic of trickling in dreadnoughts from a nearby Fortizar citadel. Regarding this tactic, Noraus, the FRT Fleet Commanders commented after the fight: "The stacking dreads `trickling in` was a pretty successful strategy and they executed it well. On their Fortizar we counted more than 20-30 dreads at all times. We had no way to stop them from warping to a ping-spot and onto our Keepstar."

The Keepstar's ISK value was dwarfed by the overall loss of materiel in this fight. About 1 Trillion ISK was destroyed. The biggest part of that sum was made up of the 262 lost Imperium dreadnoughts with a value of 740 Billion ISK. Many have pointed out that losing ships in a value ratio of 1:9 makes this engagement a net loss for the Imperium, despite having won the objective - a prime example of a Pyrrhic Victory.

But for FRT FC Noraus the matter is more complex: "One could argue if trading 200 dreads for one Keepstar is worth it, but that's a proven, viable tactic." And in this case, it worked, but this battle is part of a bigger war, and therefore one has to consider the industrial side of it as well. Noraus continues: "We don't know how deep their industrial cache is. Replacing 200-300 fitted dreads overnight is unreal for most of us - but if anyone can accomplish that, it would be the Imperium."

At the time PAPI coalition seemed to be determined to make their advance permanent. An Astrahus, a Fortizar and another FRT Keepstar Citadel have been placed in the system. The next chapter of that story was to be written in less than 24 hours.

Another Dearly Bought Victory - Imperium destroys second PAPI Keepstar in 24 hours

It promised to be one of the biggest fights in the ongoing conflict known as "World War Bee II". After the first PAPI Keepstar had been destroyed by the defending Imperium forces in a Pyrrhic victory , PAPI coalition members had anchored a second Keepstar in the same system. It would be a test of the Imperium's resourcefulness - both in machinery and strategy. Eventually up 6,551 concurrent pilots clashed in the largest battle in New Eden to this date, spreading over 13 hours of fighting.

At about 17:00 EST, a formidable coalition force had gathered on the Keepstar and waited for the citadel to enter the last phase of deployment: a 15 minute period in which the structure is vulnerable - a certain amount of damage in this phase will stop all repair activity and allows an attacker to destroy the structure before it is fully operational. The respective objectives were clear: The Imperium had to continually apply damage to the structure and the defenders had to destroy the incoming attackers fast enough to reduce the incoming damage and let the repair phase finish. Both sides had a Fortizar in system from which they could fly in more ships. Naturally, with grid control thoroughly established, PAPI could alternatively just bridge in more reinforcements from Querious as needed. Throughout the course of the battle, the fabled supercapital fleet of the Imperium was in jump range and ready to escalate the fight. With that in mind, the defending PAPI coalition showed up in force.

The grid was heavily seeded with anchored warp disruptors ("bubbles"). The capitals were mainly concentrated on the Keepstar undock, while subcapital fleets were spread all around the Keepstar perimeter. With much more rallying time than the day before, PAPI managed to field a much larger fleet. While no scans of the initial setup on the Keepstar are available, the streams and battle reports paint a clear picture. PAPI eventually brought the following ships/fleets to the fight: 155 titans, 431 supercarriers, including five Vendettas and a Revenant, 237 dreadnoughts, 482 carriers, several Muninn fleets, several Jackdaw fleets, two Eagle fleets, a Nightmare Fleet, a bomber wing, a frigate fleet designed to disrupt enemy operations, and hundreds of interceptors, interdictors and heavy interdiction cruisers.

With numbers and grid superiority secured by PAPI, the Imperium had to play it smart in order to ensure a continual stream of damage on the structure. Too many ships at the same time would mean unnecessary losses, too few could risk not hitting the damage value needed to stop the repair function. And after having lost 262 dreadnoughts just 24 hours before to destroy a single PAPI Keepstar, everyone was curious what the Imperium could field.

Showing the might of their caches, the Imperium fielded another operational 354 dreadnoughts. The bulk of the attacking force, however, was made up of battleships. 523 Rokhs, 470 Ravens, 238 Megathrons and about two dozen other battleships, all fitted for very long range. Later, battlecruisers and cruisers followed. Two Jackdaw fleets, a Harpy fleet and (in total) 803 stealth bombers were also present.

The fight began as battleships warped onto the grid from different directions and to different points at long range from the Keepstar. This would lower the risk of fatal bombing runs against the Battleships and prevent the defenders from concentrate their forces. dreadnoughts were also used, but in smaller number compared to battleships. Over the next 13 hours, the Imperium would continue using this strategy, albeit varying the ship classes. They did so with great success, because the timer had indeed been stopped at 5 minutes 59 seconds.

At about 00:30 EST, already five hours into the fight, reports were heard that the Imperium had asked their pilots to also bring traditional anti-pirate ships, especially the 100MN afterburner Vexor, a proven weapon in keeping the Blood Raiders of the region at bay. PAPI commentators interpretated this as a sign that the Imperium were running low on actual combat ships to field - a welcome sign of hope regarding the still paused repair timer. However, it is unclear to this moment, if that was indeed the motivation for the change in tactics. It could have been a play to lull PAPI in a false sense of security and spread out their forces. Because alongside the Vexors, that were indeed deployed in large numbers, hundreds of battleships still poured out of the Imperium Fortizar nearby, waiting their turn in the constant onslaught, alongside similarly waiting dreadnoughts - counting 130 at 00:45 EST.

At this time, 00:45 EST, about 20 minutes after the reports of Vexors were heard, another battlefield opened up. An Eagle fleet of Brave Newbies (SBOON) warped onto the Fortizar grid, followed shortly thereafter the a Nightmare fleet of Test Alliance Please Ignore (TEST) and a Northern Coalition. (NC.) Muninn fleet that titan bridged right onto the structure. While they were not able to actually aggress the waiting dreadnoughts and battleships due to the citadel's safety tether, their plan was apparently to hinder the stream of ships by disrupting their warp drives. At 00:51 EST, 35 heavy interdiction cruisers and 15 interdictors created bubbles of nullified space all around the Fortizar. Even if the dreadnoughts wanted, they now could not warp to the Keepstar grid. Microjumpdrives, however, still worked and so the battleships and more agile Vexors could manoeuvre out of the fields on into warp.

While the fight on the Keepstar grid raged on, the Imperium apparently saw the risk in having their staging point warp nullified and reacted. At 01:15 EST the attackers jumped a carrier group of 74 carriers and 15 force auxiliaries onto the Fortizar and started to clear off heavy interdiction cruisers and interdictors. Clearing the enemy warp disruption mostly worked and ships were allowed easier warp towards the Keepstar again. In the meantime, the Fortizar was manned by a gunner and heavy guided bombs were hurled towards the TEST Nightmares. At 1:43 EST, SBOON retreated from the field.

At 2:10 EST - at this point the PAPI interpretation of the Imperium being unable to field more ships had been repeated for three hours - the Imperium used a titan bridge to jump in even more battleships and vexors from deeper within the Delve region. With fresh ships and only 25% of the Keepstar hull still intact, it was just a matter of time until the Keepstar would finally buckle under the constant damage.

At around 5:30 EST, after 13 hours of non-stop fighting, the Keepstar exploded in a blinding light.  Including another 30 minutes of loss in materiel, the bill for both sides became apparent: While PAPI had lost about 190 Billion ISK - most of that by losing two supercarriers and 17 dreadnoughts - the Imperium had to face a loss of 1.46 Trillion ISK. The bulk of that consisted of 318 lost dreadnoughts worth 875 Billion ISK, 1,222 battleships worth 390 Billion ISK and 147 Muninns worth 38.5 Billion ISK. While the strategic objective of the Imperium - the destruction of the potential beachhead in Delve - was won against even larger opposition than 24 hours before, the cost was also higher than before.

As the opposing fleets left the battlefield, the debris of the Keepstar drifted apart and mixed with 6,000 wrecks of vessels of every model and size. Some skirmishes were conducted amidst the wrecks and the salvagers and looters were out in force - gathering all scraps in order to rebuild and continue the seemingly never-ending battle of materiel. No new structure had been anchored at the time of writing, and all of New Eden holds its breath to see what the next move in this war will be.

Note: New Eden Correspondents requested comment from FCs and leadership from major participants on both sides and responses received  were used in our reporting.

The fight started when INIT deployed an Ishtar fleet to attack the Azbel belonging to the alliance of Shoot First. Northern Coalition.[NC.] deployed a Muninn fleet alongside a small selection of carriers to try and bait out a supercapital response. Before the Ishtar fleet was destroyed, a cynosural field went up and in jumped a sizeable INIT. supercapital fleet which included 12 titans and15 supercarriers, including a Revenant and Vendetta. Once the supercapital fleet materialised, a second cynosural field went up and in jumped a large dreadnought force, also referred to as a dreadbomb.

The Vendetta was instantly called primary. Unable to withstand the fire from 50-plus dreadnought, the Vendetta was soon reduced to a mass of formerly-expensive wreckage.

A Revenant was spotted among the supercapitals and the dreadnoughts focused their fire. Unusually for a Revenant, which would normally be shield-tanked, this example sported a full armor tank. Apostles tried to keep the Revenant alive but ultimately it too exploded.

The attacking forces already having destroyed two faction supercarriers went looking for more targets. Before the last dreadnought was killed, the battle would cost INIT. three titans in addition to the two faction supercarriers.

The fight took roughly 30 minutes with the majority of the attacking capital ships being destroyed. INIT. lost a total of 550+ Billion ISK including 3 Titans and 2 faction supercarriers while the attackers lost a total of 160+ Billion ISK. The battle report can be found here.

The Keepstar, which had been reinforced a day earlier, is a major staging point for Northern efforts in the region against Imperial Legacy.

The battle was the largest capsuleer engagement since B-R5RB, involving 6,270 capsuleers and resulting in the destruction of the Keepstar's armor, bringing it to its final layer of defenses. A total of 738 Titans were fielded, along with 585 Supercarriers, 663 Dreadnoughts, 394 Force Auxiliary, 546 Carriers, and one Rorqual. Up to ten trillion ISK was destroyed during the battle, with Imperial Legacy losing the majority despite achieving their objective.

The fight lasted over nine hours and saw the destruction of 58 Titans, 23 Supercarriers, 424 Dreadnoughts, 309 Force Auxiliary, and 21 Carriers, including two Vendetta-class Supercarriers and a Molok-class Titan, the first of its kind to ever be destroyed.

Imperial Legacy utilized Supercarriers fitted with Heavy Warp Scramblers as highly damage resistant tackle by jumping them directly on top of the defending fleet and the Keepstar. This tactic proved to be effective, despite the danger inherent in the strategy, with a Northern Coalition fleet commander calling for faction Titans and Supers to dock to avoid losses.

The Keepstar will become vulnerable again on Wednesday the 8th for its final timer. This battle has the potential to be considerably more destructive. If the defenders fail, their forces will be unable to safely tether and will be left vulnerable on the field.

http://community.eveonline.com/news/news-channels/interstellar-correspondents/interview-with-lasker-emanuel/ Interview with Lasker Emanuel 2018-03-16T14:47:00Z 2018-03-16T14:47:00Z ISD Deloro 96839692 An interview with Lasker Emanuel regarding capsuleer vs. capsuleer combat

"Something about being perched on that edge makes me feel alive."

With over 5,000 star systems and several dozen trillion inhabitants, the New Eden Cluster is rich with opportunities for cunning entrepreneurs to hunt for fame, notoriety, ancient relics or trade goods. For some capsuleers, the cluster may even give the impression of a sandbox on a playground, where the strong prey on the weak and the only rule is that there are no rules.

The well-adjusted and proven process of cloning in combination with capsule technology makes a capsuleer quasi-immortal - and as such relieved from the existential fear of death and everything it entails. Many capsuleers make use of this new-found freedom by engaging each other in ship to ship combat, with no regard for the material value of a destroyed ship or that of its crew.

GalNet and the bars on all stations in the cluster are bristling with accounts of nerve-wracking fights and the joy and satisfaction capsuleers derive from these violent encounters. To help new capsuleers and veterans alike understand the mindset of those who feel most alive engaging others in combat, we have attempted to answer some of the questions many have; Why do they do it? Do they suppress their human instincts for survival or do they embrace them? How did they start doing it? – And could just any capsuleer do what they do?

To find an answer to these questions, this correspondent talked to the capsuleer Lasker Emanuel of Curatores Veritatis Alliance [CVA]. He is well known among capsuleers in parts of New Eden, especially around his base in the region of Providence. Lately, he became most famous for engaging gangs and fleets of capsuleers in dreadnought class ships - all by himself. Fighting against other capsuleers is a passion for him - pure bliss without any hate or despair.

ISD Deloro (ISD): Hello, Lasker Emanuel and thank you for being available for this interview.

Lasker Emanuel (L.E.): Thank you for reaching out. I hope all is well with you.

ISD: Could you first tell us a bit about yourself? What kind of activities and professions have you pursued in New Eden?

L.E.: I became a capsuleer in YC113, following a friend of mine on that path. Although I had read a lot about capsuleer life, especially about capsuleer combat, which sounded fascinating, I had a hard time figuring out what to do as a capsuleer.

In YC118, after a break, I decided to give the capsuleer adventures another try. I ended up taking an exploration frigate into Providence; I got blown up because I was KOS (red by last) and a Providence corporation recruited me. After coming out to Nullsec, things really got rolling for me. I started learning everything I could, and many fine folks inside and outside of CVA helped me out. I was interested in fleet, small gang and solo combat.

In addition to the obvious activity of solo combat, I have also participated in plenty of fleet combat and some small gang engagements. I have also spent some time doing station trading, which is not a passion, but it helps fund my various adventures.

ISD: When did you get into capsuleer vs. capsuleer combat and what part does it play in your everyday experience?

L.E.: I have been fighting other capsuleers solo for about two years now, and I try to fight whenever I can. My various other duties keep me a little busy, but getting out and finding a fight is still my favorite thing in New Eden.

ISD: Capsuleer vs capsuleer combat seems to be your passion. What is it about it that you enjoy? What drives you to look for these challenges?

L.E.: Pretty much every hobby I have ever had has been some form of technically complex fight. The two I put the most time into before becoming a capsuleer were martial arts and chess. I love the dynamic where you are pitting yourself against another competitor and it requires preparation, creativity, study, practice, and an ability to think clearly under pressure. I have always deeply enjoyed situations where I am in danger but unharmed, and this is true in all sorts of games and fights, in the moments where a skilled opponent is attacking, or when they are trying to checkmate, throw, choke, or otherwise defeat you, and you are still able to contain, avoid, counterattack. Something about being perched on that edge makes me feel alive.

There is another experience (a little hard to describe) that I absolutely love. Sometimes, someone plays or fights beautifully enough that everyone involved is no longer quite as worried about if they win or not, and they’re just kind of glad to be there experiencing the ephemeral little work of art that is being created. You could call it a ‘Fight-As-Art’ experience and on a good day, I am sometimes able to create that.

One of the things that I love about New Eden is that it richly rewards these two tendencies. If you love the In-Danger-But-Unharmed experience and also the Fight-As-Art experience, and you are seeking out opportunities to create these experiences, you find yourself often thrown into fights that are not necessarily favorable. This makes you extraordinarily engageable, and it gets you a ton of fights, which helps you improve rapidly.

ISD: You are best known in the capsuleer community for engaging gangs and fleets with just your dreadnought class ship and recording your fights. Dreadnoughts are amongst the largest ships with high damage output, strong tank and a price tag up to several Billion ISK. When did you start doing that and what brought you to try this?

L.E.: I started trying about six months ago. I love everything that’s done on a grand scale and thus have always been very attracted to capital combat. After training into carriers and dreadnoughts, I saw Big Miker’s Drift Naglfar video and said “Well shucks, I have to try that.” As it turns out, I have not actually tried Drift Naglfars yet, but it’s on the to-do list. My first engagement ever in a HAW (high-angular weapon, i. e. anti-subcap) dread was a Revelation against about a dozen frigates, which in retrospect is absurd, but I had no idea at the time. My heart was pounding a mile a minute as I was just sure this small kitchen sink frigate gang would have supercarriers on standby.

ISD: How many of these engagements did you have so far? How often do these engagements end with the loss of your ship?

L.E.: I have had 32 HAW dread fights, some of which are little, three-minute-long skirmishes where I kill a couple of dudes and the rest disengage, and some of which are these huge, sprawling, 40-minute-long affairs were the dread sort of forms the nexus of a swirling chaotic melee. One of my craziest fights to date had two separate red gangs and a blue gang, and the reds dropped six carriers; I used all 800 of the stront I had with me. The fight finished almost in perfect timing with my last siege cycle. I have lost eight HAW dreads over the last six months (about half after good fights and the other half after some not-so-good fights).

ISD: Have you done similar experiments with other shiptypes?

L.E.: I have done a huge amount of flying in Faction Warfare space in T1 frigates, some FW cruiser work, some null cruiser work. The thing that is probably the most similar to the dreadnought work is the stuff I have done in marauders. I actually find marauders a touch disappointing, to be honest; they are kind of like small, fragile, expensive, low-damage dreads that have no jump drive or fleet hanger. That said, a gang of 15 mostly won’t engage a dread, while they might fight a marauder. I have some experiments with pirate battleships in the queue as well, and I am looking forward to trying them.

ISD: Many players cannot afford a Dreadnought but would still like to do something similar to your videos. What would be a good alternative for smaller wallets?

L.E.: I think you can do the fly-it-like-you-stole-it concept in almost any ship. I had an awesome time flying Magnates around FW space trying to pick fights with people. So much of having fun in this activity is just about trying to create interesting, enjoyable engagements that work for whatever you are flying. The engagement creation is itself a skill, and if you find that you are mostly getting engagements that you don’t like, you can work on that and become better at it. I would encourage everyone who is interested in solo combat to go out and give it a try; solo combat in New Eden is some of the most fun I have ever had as a capsuleer.

ISD: What would your twist be on the standard advice "Buy 20 T1 Frigates and lose them in FW"? Which small steps can an ambitious capsuleer take to improve his learning experience?

L.E.: I don’t know if I have a twist, but I would advise three things before you lose your first 20:

First, find a group that has similar interests; trying to learn on your own is much harder than trying to learn with a group. Even if you are flying solo, you can get wealth of knowledge from other capsuleers.

Second, use a shipping service (or a friend) to move your 20 T1 frigates into position so you have less downtime between fights. Pick a fight, die in a fire, do it again.

Third, record your fights and watch them over again when your heart is not pounding. You will see plenty of errors and you can use that feedback to improve.

ISD: You probably know about other solo combat pilots in New Eden. How would you weigh individual talent, skill and experience in that activity? What is needed to have fun and some success in casual solo fights? Is there hope for capsuleers who don't bring strategic talent and just want to shoot things?

L.E.: New Eden is a hard place, and solo combat is especially hard. I am not sure what role that talent plays, but I can tell you everyone that is good has put in a lot of work. If you just want to shoot things and don’t want to work to improve your game, you can absolutely do that, but you will have to ride along with a content creator who does want to do the work. If you want to create your own content, and you are interested in developing your game, you might have to do a lot to get there, but it will be very satisfying when you do!

ISD: Thank you very much for this interview.

L.E.: Thanks for taking the time to talk with me.

Providence is an area famed for the welcoming attitude residents have for new Capsuleers operating in their region. Provibloc residents allow unknown Capsuleers to come and go in their space freely, as long as they do not harm any of the residents. Despite this known policy, a small hunting party decided to take their chances on an attack of a mining fleet.

A Sabre class interdictor piloted by Beautiful Thieves, found its way into the system of FC-3YI, a system that is known to contain a regular mining fleet. The interdictor pilot decided to spring a trap and thus she waited for the ideal moment. She soon found a freighter in the asteroid belt, supposedly picking up the jetcans from the mining ships, as well as a single Procurer. She moved in quickly and bubbled the Freighter and Procurer and then burned away to get some range before lighting her cynosural field to allow the Revenant to come in and destroy the ships.

Unknown to both Mister Meseeks Lookatme and Beautiful Thieves, an interdictor belonging to Provibloc had been cloaked just off of the Procurer. As soon as Beautiful Thieves lit her cynosural field, the Provibloc interdictor decloaked and burned straight at the hostile interdictor and bubbled up. Thus, when the Revenant jumped in, it was right into a bubble.

The Revenant immediately targeted the Provibloc interdictor and destroyed it, but during this, another Provibloc ship fitted with a cynosural field was exiting warp and a cynosural field was lit; in jumped 12 dreadnoughts, two heavy interdictors and a single Apostle. Straight away, the dreadnoughts begun targeting the Revenant and lashing out with their formidable firepower.

At this point, realizing his mistake, the Revenant pilot called in a friendly Minokawa belonging to Eonan Dmalum. Lordmopp1, the fleet commander for the Provibloc response force ordered all neutralizers to be put on the Minokawa and all damage to remain on the Revenant. After just several minutes, the Revenant was downed and the Minokawa followed soon after.

At the end of the battle, Provibloc forces had lost a total of 92 million ISK while they destroyed a total of 167 billion ISK. The battle report can be found here

Soon after, the Revenant was scanned down and destroyed.

The Revenant is a rare vessel as it is a supercarrier never designed or built by any of the four major factions in New Eden. Capsuleers who set their sights on obtaining one would have to pit themselves against the True Sansha incursions that specifically target lowsec space and hope to pick up a blueprint copy dropped from a destroyed mothership. Because of this, the Revenant had become an extremely attractive ship often costing as much as a titan, with one recently being sold for 85-90 billion ISK. With the true number of those in existence remaining unknown, we believe that a total of only fourteen have ever been destroyed.

Noticing the Revenant’s movement from the station, Guillejejeje XDD used his Onyx to combat scan the Revenant as it was exiting warp. When he warped to the Revenant’s location he decloaked it and immediately tackled it. Attempts were made to ransom the Revenant as well as an offer of safe passage if the pilot ejected. In a defiant move, VANO DERR, the Revenant pilot initiated self destruct, showing he would not be ransomed. As soon as the cynosural field went up, several super carriers and carriers jumped to the beacon and applied their formidable damage to the stricken Revenant. The Revenant was using a travel fit and had not even been outfitted with heavy fighters.. there was no possibility of escape.

The attackers suffered no losses while the Revenant loss was valued at around 101 billion ISK.

http://community.eveonline.com/news/news-channels/interstellar-correspondents/when-preparation-pays-off-150-billion-isk-destroyed-in-chp-76/ When Preparation Pays Off : 150+ Billion ISK Destroyed in CHP-76 2017-11-29T18:03:00Z 2017-11-29T18:03:00Z ISD Deloro 96839692 In an impressive show of coordination and determination, an allied force of L A Z E R H A W K S [HAWKS] and Hole Control [HOLE] under the leadership of Hard Knocks Citizens [HKRAB] destroyed ships from inPanic [-INP-] valued at about 156 billion ISK while suffering only minimal losses of about 200 million ISK value. The bulk of the inPanic losses were the 12 Rorqual Capital Industrial class ships that were the target of the original ambush. New Eden Correspondents had the opportunity to talk to both involved Fleet Commanders (FC).

It was on YC119.11.19 that a force of 64 Sleipnir class command ships and 26 Legion class strategic cruisers along with two dozen logistic and tackle ships prepared for a quick incursion into CHP-76 under the command of Hard Knocks Citizens' FC Braxus Deninard.

Hard Knocks Citizens, L A Z E R H A W K S and Hole Control live exclusively in wormhole systems and use the ever-changing, chaotic connections through wormhole space to engage opponents whenever and wherever they can.

inPanic lives in nullsec and claims sovereignty over 29 systems.

When a wormhole to a system in inPanic space opened, Braxus Deninard realized he had the opportunity to continue the hunt in inPanic space that he had been conducting on and off over the past year. But rather than trickle into the space and look for targets, Braxus relied on his past experience from similar incursions and kept his ready fleet in wormhole space, hidden from the watchful eyes of local intel channels that would alert potential targets to a hostile presence. Braxus soon located a potential target of a dozen Rorqual class capital industrial ships focused on a mining operation in CHP-76, a system in Cobalt Edge which is governed by inPanic alliance. At 20:08 Evetime, Braxus kicked off his assault.

About a dozen Sabre class interdiction destroyers entered K-space along with several interceptors and made best speed to the target area, completely swarming the surprised fleet of Rorquals that were quickly covered in Warp Disruption Bubbles and unable to flee. The main Hard Knocks fleet was very close behind them, but slower due to the warp speed of battlecruiser hulls. "From the initial tackle to bringing the fleet it was probably one minute.", Braxus Deninard remembers. "The guy had very little time to respond and this was very intentional by me.", he continues, referring to his opponent that day, the inPanic “Fleet Commander K.” [name withheld at request]. While the main fleet engaged the first Rorqual, Braxus was confident that their quick strike would secure them at least a few kills this day - and he also decided to wait for a response fleet for additional kill opportunities.

“Fleet Commander K.” received the notification about the attack within moments. Although he was not in his pod at the time, he frantically started a call to arms for pilots and got into a pod himself. After about three to five minutes, he had assembled a fleet of 21 Sleipnir class command ships, seven Hurricane Fleet Issue class battlecruisers and seven Basilisk class logistics ships. The fleet gathered on a Titan configured to bridge directly into the system and only then received detailed intel about the enemy fleet.

Facing an enemy with superior numbers on the same platform, “Fleet Commander K.” had to make a snap decision, believing that the composition of his reaction fleet was compromised; "Hard knocks does not suspect. They have spies." A visual recording of the fight seems to bolster the suspicion that Hard Knocks was well aware of inPanic's fleet composition before they even entered the battle.

Despite the possible handicap, “Fleet Commander K.” knew he had no choice stating that; "The math is simple: One Rorqual has a value of 11 Billion ISK. The Sleipnir fleet one of ~30 Billion ISK. So if I can get 4 Rorquals out of the belt with our fleet, it was worth it.”

Despite their best efforts to rescue even one Rorqual, Hard Knocks quickly decimated the inPanic fleet and continued to fire on the Rorquals. During the battle, only one of the Interdictors that held down the Rorquals and one Interceptor could be killed - not enough to free even one of the Rorquals. The fight was decided very quickly and the imbalance only got worse when a Hard Knocks supercarrier moved onto the grid as well, launching relentless waves of fighter-bombers against the remaining Rorquals.

After the fight, both FCs assessed the situation.

Braxus Deninard admits: "Their formup was very fast", but quickly adds "which was a significant part of why they failed to save their Rorquals. I felt like if they had taken another 5-10 minutes to form up a much larger home defence fleet including a strong capital force, they would have had a much better chance of saving their Rorquals. Instead they came very quickly with a relatively small fleet which was never going to win." In addition, he admits that: "I was hoping for a much larger response fleet from inPanic, leading to a much larger fight."

“Fleet Commander K.” felt that they would have had a better chance with improved positioning from the very start. He explains: "The struggle we had was, that Hard Knocks Citizens did headshot seven FCs from us in a row. When we still loaded grid, they were already targeting us. Warping in at range would have been better, even if it takes longer to get in position." Losing seven essential pilots out of about 30 in the first few seconds was a hard hit, but “K.” was calm and realistic and felt a lot of respect for the level of competence Hard Knocks Citizens regularly presents: "Our alliance might be relatively big compared to them, but there you can see that skill, dedication and intel can give you the upper hand even if you're outnumbered on paper."

Though there was no specific target that day, preparation and careful planning for assaults such as this had paid off handsomely. We will see how the relationship between these two alliances develop in the future. This was surely not their last engagement.

As part of their attack on several alliances in the north, Goonswarm Federation [CONDI] had formally declared war on Pandemic Horde [REKTD] through CONCORD, enabling them to fight Pandemic Horde anywhere in New Eden. After other alliances of the Imperium coalition had followed Goonswarm Federation’s lead, Pandemic Legion [-10.0], an alliance closely connected to Pandemic Horde, reacted as well and declared war on all of these alliances. While under wardec CONCORD allows capsuleers to shoot each other without interfering - the stage for a monumental clash in HighSec had been set.

Since shortly after the introduction of Skill Injectors in February and Citadels in April of last year, freeport citadels on the overview shape a pilot’s impression of Perimeter while flying through the system. Just one jump away from New Eden’s main trade Hub - Jita 4-4 - Perimeter quickly established itself as a tradehub for special items. Even though the market taxes are small, having an established market there is still very lucrative. One market citadel of the Fortizar class, albeit not the most lucrative one in Perimeter, was the “PanFam secured Hub” owned by Pandemic Horde. Maybe in an attempt to disturb the income of Pandemic Horde or to show New Eden that the great PanFam coalition is not invulnerable, the Imperium targeted this citadel, easily wiping out shield and armor of the structure and preparing for a big fight around the structure timer on YC119.08.21.

Once the day arrived, the strategies on both sides couldn’t have been more different. While Pandemic Horde, assisted by Norther Coalition. [NC], Mercenary Coalition [MC] and the Guardians of the Galaxy coalition brought their signature Machariel Battleships as well as several Tech 3 and Tech 2 hulls, the Imperium brought almost exclusively Tech 1 ships: an armor based fleet of Typhoon class Battleships with a T2 logistics wing and a second, shield based fleet made out of Hurricane class Battlecruisers. The battle began with both sides engaging each other and the Imperium attacking the Citadel simultaneously.

"The DPS ships where ordered to put their drones on the citadel, the Typhoons would fight the enemy Machariels.", Imperium logistics pilot Jorry Cassel remembers the fight. A Tech 1 Battleship fleet would be heavily outmatched against the same number of Pirate Battleships and this fight was no different. Pandemic Horde FC Steadyo confirms that "initially we brawled against goon typhoons, trading extremely well until they started losing DPS and they gave up the fight against us and turned all damage to the Fortizar." But the Imperium came prepared and had ships ready to give out to replace losses: "If we were to die, we needed to warp to one of two citadels where a member of the coalition would give us a replacement ship - one citadel for Typhoons and one for frigates. I assume the Hurricane fleet had the same setup.", Goonswarm Federation's Jorry Cassel explains.

Through this logistical masterplan, the fleets could stay in the fight for a long time. Although both sides initially held their own, when the citadel was at about 40% of its structure, the fight turned relatively one-sided, with the Imperium not being able to keep up the pressure on the Machariels. "We lost many Typhoons and had almost run out of replacements.", Jorry Cassel stated. It was at this point that the attention of the fleet was split between absorbing damage from the enemy fleet and attacking the Citadel, with Imperium logistics teams trying to keep as many ships alive as possible. When the structure hit around 20% integrity, replacement ships had run out and everyone who lost a ship was ordered to fly to New Eden's main trade hub, just one jump away, and buy whatever ship they could afford. This perseverance paid off as the Imperium managed to constantly lower the structure's hull.

But the battle had arrived at the decisive moment, as Jorry Cassel vividly recalls: "When we hit about 10%, all the Typhoons where nearly dead and we got the order to withdraw to a friendly Astrahus and reform with the Hurricane fleet, that was reformed in Hakonen. While reforming, the citadel's repair timer was being paused by people just warping in Newbie Frigate after Newbie Frigate."

Pandemic Horde's Steadyos account is very similar: "They came in Destroyers and Frigates and spread out, hitting the minimum damage required to pause the repair timer and stopping the clock at 2 minutes and 46 seconds." 387 Tech 1 Frigates and even 37 Corvettes were used during the fight in this important effort to keep the citadel's repair systems from activating. A tactic of hundreds of little pinpricks instead of dozens of Battleships turned out to be a successful tactic and bought the Imperium some precious time. The reformed and merged fleet then entered grid again and took over the attack on the Citadel, disregarding the enemy Machariels decimating their ranks.

In the end, the Imperium won the race against the clock; the Fortizar class Citadel had been destroyed. Perseverance had prevailed over finesse. "We had just proven that if you keep throwing ships at it, you can destroy every Fortizar in the game.", says Jorry Cassel, while Steadyo points out the cost of this success: "It goes to show: if you hurl enough ships at a fort it will eventually break. In a showing that resulted in the very definition of a Pyrrhic Victory." Sure enough, the price for victory was great and the success not as long-lived as many had hoped. The Citadel had been replaced within 48 hours with a newly anchored, uncontested Citadel and the impact on the market hadn't been particularly noticeable. Still, the local traders were sent a message; your favourite market hub can come under attack and be destroyed at any time, but a station is the safest bet for your business.

Alongside the Citadel, about 93 Billion ISK value was destroyed - 70 Billion ISK for the Imperium alone. 166 Battleships, 80 Battlecruisers, 387 Frigates and 37 Corvettes found their demise in this battle. As of this moment, it is not clear if the Imperium will attack another Pandemic Horde citadel. However, Steadyo makes a promise for Pandemic Horde: "If there is another attack, we have plans in place which will see them bleed just as hard, but this time without a Fortizar kill at the end."

[INIT.]

The Mittani, leader of The Imperium and alliance executor of Goonswarm Federation, was delivering his State of the Alliance, in which a northern deployment for the Imperium would be announced. While the address was underway, Pandemic Legion used the opportunity to turn its sights on a group of Rorquals in the system of N-8YET in Delve, the current home region of The Imperium.

The Imperium supercarrier pilots as well as Pandemic Legion FC penifSMASH declined to comment on the matter, but what is clear is that PL managed a successful drop on the Mining fleet by bringing nine Dreadnought capital ships, 24 Battleships including nine Bhaalgorns, eight Interdictors and several other vessels.

Normally such a drop on a mining fleet would receive a swift response of a standing fleet. In this case however, the outcome was certain as soon as the engagement had begun. Imperium pilots in local confirmed that there was no attempt to save the ships, because they were mining during the State of the Alliance speech. The Mittani himself reacted to the loss at the end of his speech: “[The] person who just lost a s**tload of Rorquals and a Hel ratting in a SOTG or mining during a SOTG, don’t use your capitals like an idiot when we are not in Delve.”

During the time until the publication of this article, more Rorqual industrial capital ships have been destroyed, giving the impression of a greater hunt. Surely, many predators will now have a closer look at the region of Delve and potential victims.

A total of 245.5 Billion ISK in assets as been lost by the Imperium with only one ship lost for Pandemic Legion, valued 73 Million ISK.

http://community.eveonline.com/news/news-channels/interstellar-correspondents/clash-in-7g-qig/ Clash in 7G-QIG 2017-08-10T11:16:00Z 2017-08-10T11:16:00Z ISD Khiara Delvort 96819795 The Imperium is a large coalition comprised of multiple alliances led by Goonswarm Federation. The coalition currently resides in the Delve region of null security space. Since they moved into Delve, they have been mining constantly using the powerful Rorqual-class industrial capital to eat their way through asteroid belts all over the region.

The Rorqual while it is an important asset for any mining fleet, can also be a hindrance. The Rorqual's industrial core when active, provides a very large boost to the mining ability of mining drones. The Industrial Core reroutes power from the engines towards the core itself boosting the defensive capabilities of the Rorqual as well as the mining and compression machinery. This means that while the industrial core is active, the Rorqual is effectively locked in place until the power has been rerouted back from the core to the engines. This process usually takes around five minutes to do, and leaves the Rorqual unable to flee a hostile situation. Despite this, many alliances opt to use the Rorqual in clusters and have capital ships on standby to jump to a cynosural field should one of the Rorquals get tackled.

3rd August YC119, in the system of 7G-QIG in the region of Delve:

At roughly 18:50 a combined force of Shadow Cartel and WE FORM VOLTA along with several other alliances managed to tackle 5 Rorqual-class Industrial capital ships. Usually, when the Imperium have a hostile fleet in their region they would form a defense fleet and see the attackers off. This time however, they did not. Earlier in the week The Mittani, Goonswarm Federation leader and head of the Imperium coalition, announced that they would be going to 'burn the north'. As a result, there was no one left to defend the Rorqual mining fleet. There were a total of 11 Roquals when the combined hostile fleet arrived and all but 5 managed to escape.

The Rorquals were quickly dealt with, only one of which had the time to activate the Pulse Activated Nexus Invulnerability Core module; "PANIC" for short. The PANIC module provides a shield around the industrial ships in the fleet and the Rorqual that used it. It strengthens the shields considerably but only lasts for six or seven minutes. Usually this would be enough time for most large alliances to scramble a defense fleet and rush to the aid. With no local assistance available, the last Rorqual was destroyed which left the hostile fleet to loot the field before making their swift escape.

The total damage was a staggering 56 billion ISK destroyed while the attackers suffered no losses. A total of 5 Rorquals, a Rattlesnake-class battleship along with several other ships were destroyed. The battle report can be found Here.

http://community.eveonline.com/news/news-channels/interstellar-correspondents/first-wormhole-keepstar-destroyed/ First Wormhole Keepstar Destroyed 2017-08-10T11:11:57Z 2017-08-10T11:11:57Z ISD Khiara Delvort 96819795 The Keepstar-class citadel is the most sought-after citadel in the whole of New Eden. Developed by Upwell Consortium they are extremely powerful but come with a very large price tag. A Keepstar will cost you around 200 billion ISK and are the only structure large enough to dock Super carriers and Titans. There were only four known citadels in the depths of wormhole space; two belonging to Hard Knocks Citizens [HKRAB], one belonging to Lazerhawks [LZHX] and one belonging to Inner Hell [-INHE].

On Thursday the 13th of July, YC119, the system of J135031, occupied by Inner Hell, saw the first ever wormhole Keepstar come under heavy attack. A combined force of Hard Knocks Citizens and Lazerhawks descended on the Citadel with a carrier fleet. With the capitals dealing the main damage a group of Machariel battleships hung nearby providing support. There were roughly 30 carriers, mostly comprised of the Thanatos class with a few Nidhoggurs and Chimeras as well. These larger ships would warp in at range to the Keepstar and launch their fighters, before heading back to their staging Fortizar nearby. This tactic allowed them to stay out of range of the deadly weaponry employed by the Keepstar. Additionally, If the citadel's defenders had shown up the carriers would have been in a position to easily disengage and tether on the Fortizar.

The Keepstar was quickly stripped of its shields and went into a reinforced state. The next day, Friday 14th, YC119, saw the second phase of the assault on the enormous structure. This time the goal for the wormhole's invaders was to destroy the armour of the Citadel. Repeating their tactic of the day before, Hard Knocks and Lazerhawks warped at range with their carrier fleet and deployed fighters, warping back to their Fortizar for cover. As their combined force seethed around their staging point they set to work destroying the armour of the Keepstar. The massive citadel was again knocked back into reinforcement and the attackers now found themselves one step closer to their goal, having just one more day before they could destroy it completely.

On Saturday 15th, YC119 the final timer for the Keepstar drew closer. Once again Hard Knocks and Lazerhawks set their carriers up in their routine manner. Several times Stealth bombers had decloaked and launched bombs at the fighters and Citadel in the hopes of being on the final killmail when it was received. Many of these bombers were eliminated with only a handful of Sabres lost as a result. Just before the Keepstar died Hard Knocks and Lazerhawks warped in dreadnoughts at 0 on the citadel, most likely to let their pilots get on the kill. A few Dreadnoughts had warped in early and as a result were destroyed. The Keepstar started to fire its Standup Arcing Vorton Projector but died before it was ready to fire. As a result, the dreadnought fleet survived.

Noobman from Hard Knocks who helpfully agreed to be interviewed for this article said that, "The target was not chosen out of malice, it was chosen because the goal was to kill a Keepstar in wormhole space. I want to say I helped FC [Fleet command] this op but the two people that organised everything are Braxus Deniard and J3rz11. Months ago we told our members that they needed to train carrier pilots and able to use fighters. After that we started the process of buying up carriers and dreadnoughts and moved them to some of our C6 Wormholes that had a Static Class 6 wormhole. About 5-6 weeks ago we told our members to move into the static C6 holes and we would start seeding them into the target. We had some days we would get zero pilots into the target and some days we would get over 20 capitals in.In total we seeded 143 capitals. 60 Dreadnoughts, 74 Carriers, 4 Force auxiliaries, 4 Freighters and 1 Rorqual. We planned for multiple scenarios and brought in multiple fleets to reship and fight certain defence fleets."

Noobman also informed New Eden Correspondents that there was over 120 billion ISK worth of loot that was not destroyed when the Keepstar exploded.

"We used to call it 'Домашка' when we were referring to it. A rough translation is 'home'," says Confiscated when asked what they called J135031. He also mentions he only found out about the attack on their Keepstar thanks to Reddit. When asked if Inner Hell would survive through this tremendous blow his reply was positive  - "Yes, we will continue to live and prosper even after this. We will continue getting our content from Null. We will also be putting a Keepstar in our new home". When asked if he had any other comments he replied "I'd like to acknowledge that HK [Hard Knocks Citizens] did a great job. I used to do evictions with our guys and it's a lot of work to keep hole control and to get capitals in."

I would like to thank Noobman and Confiscated for taking the time to talk with New Eden Correspondents.

A list of all the ships that survived the Citadel's explosion can be found here along with some of the stealth bomber kills.

Providence, New Eden – Ten years ago, in early February of YC109, a small group of pilots came together with the idea that they could make Sukanen, a low security system, safe from ‘pirate’ activity. FuriousPig and Irons of IronPig [IRPG] and Dreamy of Mystic Lion Hearts [-MLH-] formed Sev3rance [-7-] with the hopes that they could manage active aggression through the standings system of NRDS [Not Red, Don’t Shoot].

Although the prevailing attitude from outsiders was that the program could never succeed, they in fact did make it work, and in the process developed a reputation that others noticed. Among those was Curatores Veritatis Alliance [CVA], who were attempting the same thing in 0.0 Providence. It was not long before -7- was invited out to North Providence to see if they could manage the same successful results.

Many Alliances have accomplished great things through the history of New Eden, however few can say that they have accomplished those goals over as long a time period as -7- has. They can count themselves among such notables as long-time allies Curatores Veritatis Alliance [CVA] and other well-known names such as Against All Authorities [.-A-.] and Ushra’Khan, who will turn 13 later this year.

IronPig [IRPG] pilot and long time Providence resident iiOs explains, “It’s the community we created… we don’t have that elite culture.” He goes on to explain that new members are welcomed to the fold, but ultimately their success depends on their level of integration to the team.

For the combat pilot, finding a fight is rarely a problem in Providence. The industrialist looking to build ships and modules to replace losses can have a more difficult task under these conditions, but the rewards can be worth the frustration. Despite the occasional industrial loss consisting of jump freighters or Rorquals, industrial pursuits continue in the region. For all intents and purposes, leadership appear to have found that happy medium which allows for the majority of their members to find what they need to be happy.

In speaking with FuriousPig, one certainly gets the impression that he speaks his mind, and calls it as he sees it, “I keep no secrets from [my people] and they get to know what's going on,” he states.

It has not been an easy road for Sev3rance. They were forcibly removed from Providence for a host period of time several years ago along with CVA and the rest of the Provibloc coalition. Being displaced gave them the chance to look at their commitment to their cause, and after some months, returned to take back their home. From that time, they have remained the stalwart guardians of the north in Providence.  Whatever the reason, love them or hate them, they have made their mark in their space, and don’t appear ready to give up any time soon.

The alliance tournament has now concluded, bringing with it some awesome rewards for the winners.

One of these rewards is the Caedes covert ops frigate. It’s an immensely powerful ship with the ability to use the covert ops cloak along with technology not found in the average space ship. It has extremely powerful webbing and capacitor draining technology. The Caedes also boasts powerful hacking technology.  Anyone wanting to add a Caedes to their collection  will be expecting to have to pay around 140 billion isk.

Pilots Casper24 and Dancul1001 both from Pandemic Legion killed a Tristan class frigate  in the system Amamake. This was the first sighting of the Caedes, the first of many more to come. Casper24 is well known for flying expensive alliance tournament prize ships in the area.

The second reward ship is the Rabisu. The Rabisu is a covert ops logistic cruiser vessel. There is only one other ship of this class; the Etana.

The Rabisu is an armour logistics ship with powerful remote repairing technology. With the ability to cloak up at a moment's notice it’s great for a covert ops fleet! Of course the Rabisu is not cheap and therefore will not be a common sight. Capsuleers who are rich enough will surely add this to their alliance's team next year. The Rabisu will be a much sought-after ship for future Alliance tournaments, and is currently selling for 180 billion isk each.

Despite the price of this ship there are reports that the Rabisu was sighted in Amamake belonging to Bluemelon of Pandemic Legion [-10]. It was fielded along with multiple other Alliance tournament prize ships.

The The Tuskers Co[TUSK] first place finish in the tournament sees them with 25 Caedes frigates and 25 Rabisu cruisers. With only 50 of each class made, they now own half of these unique ships in all of New Eden.

Providence, New Eden - Just as the second half of day 4 of ATXIV got underway, reports started flowing in that a hostile fleet had entered Providence. In JEIV-E, Provibloc ships clashed with the primarily Triumvirate.[Tri.] and League of Unaligned Master Pilots [Lumpy] fleet. The invaders, numbering just over 200 sub-capital ships, faced off with a force of over 300 Provibloc ships led by CVA, Yulai Federation, and Sev3rance. In what appears to be an attempt to destroy a second Citadel within Providence in 4 days, the fleet was met at the XHQ gate. Tri. Macharials and Lumpy Tengu’s ran into Provi capitals and a heavy Maelstrom/Nightmare fleet and when the dust had settled, nearly half of the attacking fleet had been destroyed.

Preliminary battle reports showed that, 60 Macharials had been lost, while Lumpy’s Tengu’s fleet fared much better, escaping with only one loss. The defending fleet, at the time of writing, had lost 20 Stealth Bombers, 17 battleships, and 11 Logi. While roughly the same number of ships were lost by both sides, the value of the Tri. & Co. losses topped 30 billion, while the Provi fleet lost approximately 13 billion.

In the days leading up to this, a Fortizar owned by Sev3rance was destroyed by a Tri. Macharial fleet in B-WPLZ.

This recent aggression, combined with the recent departure of The Volition Cult [VOLT] from the coalition within Providence known as Provibloc has led to speculation that a larger scale invasion could be in the works. VOLT recently changed their aggression policy from the Providence standard of NRDS [Not Red, Don’t Shoot], to a much more aggressive NBSI [Not Blue, Shoot It]. VOLT has also run afoul of the CVA ratings system and has been set KOS [Kill on Sight] due to aggression by some of their pilots within the Providence Region. While it appears that VOLT is not in league with Tri., many are left wondering.

FuriousPig, CEO Emeritus of Sev3rance [-7-], seems pretty confident as he states, “Volt wanted to spread their wings & come out of the perceived CVA shadow.  And Tri are down to flex their muscles.”

This appears to be confirmed by Garst Tyrell, Executor of Tri. as he shrugs off the rumors of a larger conflict in Providence, stating that the reason for being there is “Just fun” and what their plans are for the future, “We’re staying in Provi for now and will flex to wherever needed in the coming months based on political developments.”

CVA Diplomat xHjfx echoes the sentiment; “[Tri. are] A formidable foe but the impression is that it's a phase rather than a determined assault.”

Whatever the truth is, the temperature is heating up in Providence and only time will tell how this evolves.

EVE Radio isn’t your average corporation; they are the corporation for the DJs and management of one of the largest online gaming radio stations in New Eden - a radio station that was on the verge of closure just months ago. We asked DJ Accy, the Station Manager for EVE Radio about the recent shutdown scare.

DJ Accy confirmed the rumors about the demise of EVE Radio weren't exaggerated; “It is true. We were behind on donations for July... We have seen ever decreasing numbers due to competition of other media sources... and as a consequence we were suffering badly.”

He went on to say that, “EVE Radio is safe for now, we are up to date, have covered October's donations and listener figures have increased from a poor summer. This is in no small part to the work of some very dedicated DJs.”

DJ Accy even had a ‘shaving incident’, which in his own words may have helped in the summer. DJ Accy explained that he “got laughed at for weeks for shaving my eyebrows, beard etc live on Twitch and on Eve Radio but not with water no, that would be too easy. I used Jack Daniel's honey as it was a listener request.” We asked him if this was a drastic measure taken to keep EVE Radio alive. He prefered to think of it as “more of a labour of love”, but conceded that “it was an....unusual....move.”

MrBlades, who is officially the network director, took a few minutes out of his busy schedule to reminisce about the humble beginnings of Eve Radio; “Mostly, I remember fondly how back in those early years listeners didn't get offended by every little thing which is hard to get away with in this day and age. Back in 2003 is was about having fun with players, devs and ISD volunteers on the radio, which for the most part was a fairly fresh way of interacting with a game back then. It grew very quickly from those humble beginnings and became serious business by the last quarter of the year when we setup a full time schedule and automation running in the off times. That's when it went from a couple of dozen regulars to hundreds overnight.  I'm talking listeners of course, not staff.  Although we've had hundreds of those over the years too.”

Many of the team at EVE Radio have fond memories of the past. The fondest for DJ Accy being the PLEX for GOOD (Phillipines)  he explained that; “this was a collaboration between many DJs where we raised circa 18b ISK for the appeal.” When we asked DJ Yumene the same question, he replied “I think one of my good memories has to be during one of our mining ops we had with the listeners.  I think it was the second one? I had kept saying that I wanted to fill this can before the noctis took it.  It was some kind of goal ... I was tired.  But one of the listeners found it funny to keep filling the can while I had stepped away for a quick second.  I came back, saw my can filled and then everyone just started laughing at me because I was there trying to figure out who filled my can! I think this was a moment you had to be there to get it.”

EVE Radio has a new direction in its future. When asked about the future for EVE Radio both DJ Accy and DJ Yumene explained that they “do have plans. due to the changing nature of gaming, we are expanding from plain ole' EVE Radio and we are becoming something bigger. This is due to the number of players who have enjoyed Eve then moved on and play other games now. We want to help cater to all of them. We present: www.gamingnow.net  Gaming Now is the new project that we have been working on that will be the new home for EVE Radio in the future. Right now it's still in beta, but we are also going to be working on video streaming as well in addition to radio. So we are  going to be expanding. Call it moving with the times. We want to capitalise on all that is and was good with eve radio, and also move on and incorporate new games.”

The recruitment process is a bit different for EVE Radio. DJ Yumene explained that “The recruitment process usually goes with the initial application that applicants fill out on the recruitment website. From there they get reviewed and assigned to one of the members of the recruitment team for a formal interview where if they pass they move on to the testing phase where they have to show their knowledge of the software, their skills, and ability to produce quality shows. If they pass at that point then they become a probationary DJ.”

The EVE Radio team has plans for some upcoming events particularly on the run up to the holiday season. These include a Serpentis dreadnought giveaway on November 11th ( USA Veterans Day) and the annual pre-Christmas (dates to be confirmed) “Christmas Comes Early” event with organisers aiming for 40b ISK in giveaways.

Welcome to the Alliance Tournament Team Spotlight, where we take a closer look at some of the teams competing in the Alliance Tournament XIV. Today, we are looking at Test Alliance Please Ignore [TEST], who has had a team in the tournament before.

TEST has competed in the Alliance Tournament 4 times before – in Alliance Tournaments X, XI, XII, and XIII – every Alliance Tournament since Test Alliance Please Ignore was founded in YC112. In YC117 they reached the semi-finals before being smashed by THE RONIN. In this year’s Alliance Tournament, TEST is among the seeded teams that did not have to compete for a place.

TEST's captain Soldarius summarized their past Alliance Tournament performance as follows: “In the past 3 years TEST Alliance Please Ignore has not only participated, but placed in the top 12 twice. We may not be the most skilled pilots around. But under-estimating us is a sure way to lose a match. Knowing this weakness has encouraged us to work on our individual piloting and at least close the gap between our skill level and those of the best teams. We have been practicing non-stop since the Amarr Championships last November in the hopes that the extra effort will pay off this October.”

With pilots from defunct alliances such as Camel Empire and Nulli Secunda finding new homes in already-strong alliances such as NC. and Pandemic Legion, things look tough for TEST this year.

TEST is not despairing quite yet, however. According to Soldarius, the team has been practicing a lot more this year and joining in open scrimmages with other Alliance Tournament teams. “My hope is that not only TEST will improve, but other alliances as well.” They are definitely learning from their mistakes in last year’s

“Do not underestimate us,” Soldarius said as a message to the other teams. “We are not as bad as you think we are.”

With over two thousand capsuleers present in the Amarr system on September 28, YC 118.8 during the historic coronation of Empress Catiz I, CONCORD communication relays were filled with comms traffic. We, at Interstellar Correspondents, approached several capsuleers with for their opinions on the coronation ceremony.

Capsuleer Thomas Moroh of BattleHamsters [BHSRR] had this to say

I'm not exactly sure what to expect. Despite the need for action I hope this will actually go... 'peacefully', give or take an odd Bowhead looking for a fight, and the Empire will get stability with a new ruler.

Although the ships used were different, Thomas Moroh eerily predicted the actions of two Providence class freighters owned by Rote Works during the coronation address.

Titus Tallang, a Director of Education at EVE University [E-UNI] offered more formal congratulations to the new Empress.

The University would like offer our congratulations to her highness, Empress Catiz I, on her ascension to the Imperial throne. Though we are a capsuleer organization and do not consider ourselves to be affiliated with any of the major powers of New Eden, we still hold Her Majesty in the utmost esteem and eagerly await her leading the Amarr with the same wisdom and intelligence that she has plentifully demonstrated in her past actions.

Chribba of Otherworld Enterprises [OTHER] was seen at the Coronation site in his infamous ‘Veldnaught’, the presence of which was recognized by the new Empress during her address. Chribba commented that it should be a fun event to attend and remarked I’m all for the new ruler in regards to the new Empress.

Imperial Sergeant Chris Vattic of Imperial Dreams [IG] was similarly positive,

I believe Her Majesty will inspire much faith and confidence in her rule. What God has decreed must be.

His sentiments were echoed by numerous other members of the Curatores Veritatis Alliance in the Amarr system’s local communication channel during the coronation. As part of her address, Empress Catiz I celebrated the long running Amarr loyalist alliance, along with Praetoria Imperialis Excubitoris [PIE], whose recruiter, Aldrith Shutaq was seen looking for new loyalists during the event.

Interstellar Correspondents were also able to approach Lysus of Hard Knocks Inc. [HRDKX], a Champion to Aritcio Kor-Azor prior to the coronation address who called the bloodline of the new Empress into question,

An unpure bloodline should have never been allowed to compete in the tournament! How can we truly be the beacon of light if we are ruled by the unpure?! MAKE AMARR PURE AGAIN

Lysus’ Paladin class Marauder was destroyed during the coronation address by Amarr loyalists following a sanction from the Order of St. Tetrimon.

Also present in system were numerous Minmatar pilots, who called on the Empress to address Amarr slavery policies. Kujo Minowara of Imperial Guardians [I G] demanded to know what will your stance towards the Minmatar Tribal Republic be, and what are your words to the Matari people, the free and the enslaved, and the freedom fighters. Although drowned out by the volume of Amarr Victor chants across communication channels, several dissenting voices were heard chanting support for the Minmatar people.

Interstellar Correspondents can also confirm that a bomb threat was received by ISD-IC offices from Sven Holstien, a member of Stimulus [STIM] under the Rote Kapelle alliance. The capsuleer did not have any comments regarding the coronation of Empress Catiz I.

Welcome to the Alliance Tournament Team Spotlight, where we take a closer look at some of the teams competing in the Alliance Tournament XIV. Today, we are shining the spotlight on 404 Alliance Not Found [U-WOT], who also participated in last year’s Alliance Tournament XIII.

Although this is only the second time 404 Alliance Not Found has fielded an Alliance Tournament team, several of their members have been in previous Tournaments multiple times with other alliances.

In YC117, 404 Alliance Not Found were defeated in both their matches, by Vox Populi. in the first, and Drop the Hammer in the second. According to team member Heimotz, they were “curbstomped, but it was still a lot of fun. Both matches we were countered and wrecked, we did fine, the other teams just crushed us. We picked Paper, they picked Scissors.” He went on to say, however, that “our goal last year was fun, this year the same goal. We had fun last year, and will have more fun this year.”

We asked Heimatz about his opinion of their chances. “To win it all? Nil. At some point wealth and size give teams a real advantage. We’re very small, and use a lot of our time on corporation matters, can’t dedicate a lot of time to making many comps and practice. We don’t own any AT ships to pull out, and our budget for flagship is laughably low. Still, advancing in the brackets isn’t out of the question, and it’s just more fun to have!”

Welcome to the Alliance Tournament Team Spotlight, where we take a closer look at some of the teams competing in the Alliance Tournament XIV. Today, we are looking at Complaints Department [P45], who are newcomers to this year’s tournament.

In an interview with Frag Solo of Complaints Department, the capsuleer disclosed that he had previously taken part in Alliance Tournament XIII under the banner of Tactical Narcotics Team [TNT], and this factored into his decision to take Complaints Department into the tournament this year. “It's a old project,” he said. “Last year I made the AT and we finish Top 12 , we won something like 120b but the alliance exec stole the winnings, so I planned to make my own team this year!”.

Frag Solo was also anticipating an early matchup with Tournament heavyweights Pandemic Legion [-10.0] and didn’t rate his team’s chances particularly highly. “At the moment it's very low .... we don’t have excellent setup for the moment. We are still working a very strong setup. We know we will probably fight PL for our second round, so we don’t have any hope on this match for the moment.” When queried about which team he would like to fight against, however, he responded with Pandemic Legion, reasoning that to “fight the best is a good experience”.

When asked about his team’s philosophy for the tournament, it appears that Frag Solo is invested in his fellow tournament pilots. “My philosophy is .... I run the tournament like a business! I invest money and I want a pay back! My strategy is stay serious and try to have some fun,” and offered a simple “GLHF” to the pilots and the citizens of the cluster.

10 years ago: First Avatar-class Titan deployed by Capsuleers in Feythabolis region

On 25th September 108YC, ten years ago, the alliance Ascendant Frontier [ASCN] deployed the first capsuleer owned Titan from a starbase located in the AZN-D2 system.

(Historical image of 'Steve', curtsey of EVE Inspiracy)

The Avatar-class vessel, named Steve, was piloted by CYVOK, the leader of Ascendant Frontier. The completion of this multi-month project saw the start of an arms race between Ascendant Frontier and their rivals, Band of Brothers [BoB].

Speaking to reporters at the time, CYVOK commented that the construction project was undertaken in secret, with only three other pilots aware of the construction efforts. Much of the resources were gathered through refinery taxes and mining operations within ASCN territory. An additional construction operation for a smaller ship was used to provide cover against enemy spies.

A large group of spectators flocked to the AZN-D2 system to see Steve officially launch, with CYVOK commenting “The face of warfare in New Eden has just changed forever.”

Few months later, Band of Brothers attacked the C9N-CC system in Esoteria, their own Titan in the attack force. Steve was destroyed by the attackers, making it the first Titan lost in combat in New Eden. The wreck of the mighty vessel can be visited in the C9N-CC system.

(The wreck of 'Steve' - now drifting through the vastness of New Eden for eons to come)
